Julia & Janos Fisher
Julia and Janos were both born in Budapest, Janos in 1937 and Julia in 1941, although they didn’t meet until the came to England separately in 1957 – Janos alone and Julia with her parents, escaping from the communist regime after having survived antisemitism and depravation during the war. Julia had particularly terrifying memories from her life in Hungary. The couple met in London and married in 1960. They worked together to build up a successful handbag business and raise their family, having been happily married now for nearly 60 years. I started to travel to London on business and it was on one of these trips that I was introduced to Julia. She came from a similar background to me and she was the prettiest girl I had ever dated. With her father’s permission we soon married. That was the best thing that ever happened to me.
